In December, the Westford League continued its ongoing work on a study on local voting rights and considering whether to support the expansion of the local franchise to non-citizen, legal residents and/or to younger residents, specifically 16- and 17-year-olds.  The study group had a productive meeting on December 9, where volunteers shared progress on their research and also discussed some recent related news, including the expansion of local voting rights in New York City to include permanent residents. The group had a wide-ranging discussion about some of the pros and cons of potentially expanding the local franchise. The group is looking forward to connecting with an advocate for youth voting rights and with the Town Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.
