How to Contact Your Elected Officials

Personal contacts are considered the most effective form of advocacy. But phone calls, letters, faxes, and email, roughly in that order, are all worthwhile strategies.

Address written correspondence as follows:

To the President and the Governor: President Barack Obama; Governor Deval Patrick. The salutation should be: Dear President Obama; Dear Governor Patrick.

To U.S. and state senators and representatives: The Honorable First name Last name. The salutation should be: Dear Senator/Representative Last name.
